Castelfranc Piano Summer School - Tarn, south-west France

THE VENUE is a 20-bedroomed, mid-19th-century chateau set in the heart of Cathar country, close to the medieval town of Castres. Chateau Castelfranc, owned by the Dandelion Trust, is rich in history, with 11th-century foundations and a 13th-century cloister and chapel. Within the grounds, which straddle a ley line known as le meridien vert, is an early 17th-century observatory, the first in France, which once rivalled Greenwich as the site for the 0 degrees meridian.

The setting is tranquil and secluded, the grounds set amid a circle of low hills, partly wooded. The chateau remains cool in the Languedoc summer heat, and there is a natural lake for swimming a short drive away. Meals, taken out of doors, combine fresh local produce with the regional wine - appellation Gaillac.

CHATEAU CASTELFRANC is owned by the DANDELION TRUST, a registered charity that supports the arts, helps people in traumatic situations, and conserves green spaces and beautiful buildings. Music at Castelfranc gratefully acknowledges the support of the Dandelion Trust.
